National Park Plitvice Lakes

National Park Plitvice Lakes is the largest and oldest national park in Croatia and is one of the most beautiful natural sights in Europe. This national park is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, which has also received international recognition.

Because of the special geographical position and specific climatic characteristics, many natural phenomena, rich flora, fauna, and biological diversity have formed. The formation of travertine barriers, the creation of lakes and the process of natural construction give this park outstanding universal value.

The park is primarily covered in forest vegetation, with smaller areas under grasslands and also it is a mountain area with 16 lakes, interconnected by cascades and waterfalls.

Lakes are divided into Upper and Lower Lakes, and are adorned with crystal clear water flowing from numerous rivers and nearby streams. The high forest of the park is dominated by rich flora and fauna. In addition to many species of birds, deer, bears, wild cats, and small wild animals have found their home here, in a forest and cave.

Almost two million people every year visit this exceptional natural beauty of the National Park Plitvice Lakes. Except to walking, visiting the national park is organized by electric boats and trains to help visitors see every part of the park, which extends over almost 30,000 hectares. With a tour of the park, visitors can take a break in several restaurants located in the park with a rich gastronomic offer of traditional food prepared with ingredients that grow on the preserved Plitvice fields and pastures.
