UGLJAN & PAŠMANAlthough two islands, Ugljan and Pašman are often mentioned together because they are connected by a bridge and form an almost single landmass. They are the closest islands in the Zadar archipelago to the mainland, with a short ferry ride of about 20 minutes from Zadar. They are connected to the mainland by ports in Zadar and Biograd, with numerous ferry and passenger boat lines. We recommend visiting Ugljan (the town), Lukoran near the famous Olive Island Marina, the charming town of Preko (which is also the main ferry port), Kali with one of the largest fishing fleets on the Adriatic coast, Kukljica, Dobropoljana, Pašman, and Ždrelac – all known for beautiful beaches and walking trails. No other island is as well connected to the mainland as Ugljan. A passenger boat operates directly from the Zadar Old Town: Large ferries (up to 130 vehicles, 1000+ passengers) operate from Gaženica port in Zadar: It is also possible to reach Ugljan via Pašman from Biograd: Ugljan is set to host luxury resorts in the near future – including a 5-star private resort “Lioqa” on the western coast (Pavlešina bay), with a second planned 4 km south. Major investments are also planned in the Zelena Punta resort in Kukljica. Kali is a beautiful coastal town located on the island of Ugljan, just east of Preko and the main ferry port. The area is known for its stunning coastline, natural beauty, Mediterranean atmosphere, and vibrant summer life. Ugljan is the closest and most developed island in the Zadar archipelago. Despite being on an island, it offers everything you need – restaurants, shops, schools, marinas, pharmacies, emergency services – combined with the priceless charm of island life.
KALIKali is the largest settlement on the island of Ugljan with around 1,650 inhabitants. The old town center, full of narrow alleys and stone houses in traditional Dalmatian style, sits on a hill offering magnificent views of the surroundings. Kali is primarily a fishing village, untouched by mass tourism, which makes it a rare gem on the Adriatic. It’s a Mediterranean town known for its clear sea, fishing boats, beautiful coves, and beaches. Here you’ll find what’s often lost – the authenticity of a true Dalmatian village, with warm hospitality and openness of the locals. Kali offers a peaceful environment, relaxation, and delicious local food – especially seafood. Many visitors fall in love with the place at first sight. The climate features all the key traits of the Mediterranean: dry summers and mild winters. The average annual temperature is over 15°C, with July averaging 24°C and January 12°C. Days with sub-zero temperatures are rare. The island enjoys about 2,500 hours of sunshine annually, with up to 12 hours daily in July. The island of Ugljan is 22 km long, rich in greenery and well-developed infrastructure. It has schools, emergency services, pharmacies, markets, cafes, restaurants, gas stations, marinas, etc. During summer, there are many cultural, sports, and entertainment events. The famous “Kali Fishermen’s Nights” has been held for over 50 years. You’ll enjoy all the benefits of island living – but with excellent connectivity to Zadar. More info available at the |
