National Park Kornati

National Park Kornati

National Park Kornati is a stone labyrinth consisting of 89 islands, islets, and cliffs. This is the most indented part of the Mediterranean coast, adorned with untouched, pure nature, high reefs and a wonderful landscape, which is why many call it the Stone pearls of the Mediterranean.
Of the total area of the park, only ¼ is land, while the rest is sea ecosystem. The islands, mainland part of the national park, is known for its karst phenomena: ravines, sinkholes, and caves. The most popular phenomenon is certainly the vertical cliffs, also called the “crowns” of the Kornati islands, that are facing to the open sea, which makes them unique.
The second part of the park refers to the sea area. It penetrates deep light in the underwater world of Kornati which results in crystal clear and transparent sea.

Therefore, the Kornati marine ecosystem is a habitat for fish and various species of beautiful corals. The islands are divided into two series: Kornat and Piškera, and they got a name by the biggest island of Kornat. Particularly impressive are the old drystone walls, which testify to a long history and incredible human diligence, skill and patience.
Because of its natural beauty, uniqueness, indented coastline, preserved nature and rich underwater world, National Park Kornati is an ideal destination for all those who look for an oasis of peace with sun, sea and untouched nature. Also, the Kornati islands are a real paradise for sailors and scuba divers.

The view of the Kornati archipelago from the air is just as enchanting as well as the view from the sea or island lookouts. An impressive picture of nature, sea, cliffs, and drystone walls makes Kornati one of the most beautiful locations visited by about 150 thousand visitors a year.
