Nature Park Telašćica

Nature Park Telašćica has the status of a protected area because of valuable flora and fauna, geological and geomorphological phenomena and because of its interesting archaeological heritage.
Telašćica bay for many is the safest, most beautiful, and largest natural port on the Adriatic. Here are the white Adriatic cliffs, so-called stene 161 meters high that plunge into the deep blue sea. Another phenomenon of Telašćica is the salt lake Mir known for its healing feature and endemic species of eel kajman. Telašćica is surrounded by 13 islands and there are six of them in the in the bay.
Quiet and peaceful beaches, steep cliffs, Aleppo pine and holm oak forests, bare rocks, numerous capes, and rich Mediterranean vegetation are just a part of this unique nature park whose undersea world has over 300 plants and 300 animal species. Corals also live here, including red coral, an extremely rare and valuable species of coral. The bottlenose dolphins have chosen Telašćica as their favorite place to come in pods, as well as the rich world of butterflies and 15 species of birds of prey, including the peregrine falcon, an endangered and rare species.
Visiting the park, you can see archaeological remains that testify to the population of this area since prehistoric times. You can thus see burial mounds, Illyrian mounds and the remains of a Roman structure from the 1st century. There are remains of the fort Grpašćak, a military lookout point of the Austro-Hungarian navy, on Nature Park’s highest cliff of the same name, about 150 meters above sea level.
Through organized tourist tours, visitors can try cruising, water sports, fishing, cycling and attractive photo-hunting. Nature Park Telašćica, which annually has over 100,000 visitors, also offers attractive locations for diving enthusiasts, especially because of the numerous sea caves that adorn this undersea world.
