Preko

The settlement of Preko is the administrative and traffic center of the island of Ugljan, which is located across from Zadar, just as its name suggests (Preko=across). It is only a 20-minute ferry ride from the Zadar port of Gaženica.
The settlement is also the center of the municipality of Preko, which covers about two thirds of the northwestern part of the island of Ugljan, and the inhabited islands of Rivanj, Sestrunj, Ošljak and Galevac (Školjić) and the uninhabited Tri Sestrice, Mali Paranak, Veliki Paranak and Idula. According to the last census from 2011, the municipality of Preko has 3805 inhabitants, of which 1286 live in the settlement of Preko.

In the old parts of the settlement we can notice the typical Dalmatian architecture with many country houses. You will feel the best Mediterranean atmosphere only by walking along the lungo mare promenade with numerous cafes and restaurants overlooking the Zadar channel. In the immediate vicinity of Preko, there is a small island of Galevac (Školjić) where is, hidden among the pines, a Franciscan monastery from the 15th century. Also, nearby there is the smallest permanently inhabited island in the Adriatic, Ošljak. In addition to these islands, Preko is adorned by numerous beautiful beaches such as the beaches Magazin, Uvala svitla, Bilišće, and especially the most famous beach Jaz, which is marked by Blue Flag, proof of sea quality.

The settlement and the island can boast of many facilities, concerts, events, sports, and everyone will find something for themselves. If you want to spend a holiday on the motion, full of adrenaline and fun, you can try hiking, fishing, cycling, kayaking, paintball, diving, sailing, football, and various water sports. The proximity of the city of Zadar, the beauty of flora and fauna, clean sea and the hospitality of the hosts will surely be enough reason for you to return to Preko.
