Swimming Marathon Preko – Zadar
Swimming Marathon Preko – Zadar is organized annually by the Zadar Swimming Club. This is the longest running marathon in Croatia and is traditionally organized on August 5th on the occasion of the anniversary celebration of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian Defenders and the Operation „Oluja“ (Storm). The competition starts from the seafront in Preko and the goal is at the swimming pool Kolovare in Zadar. The swimming track is 4500 m long and there are over one hundred participants of all ages participate in this marathon each year. Anyone can compete; recreationists, members of sports clubs from Croatia or other countries, and all those who want to try this challenge and swim through Zadar channel. After all the participants arrive at the aim, there is organized a fun party with food, drinks and music for all swimmers and visitors.
The first Preko – Zadar Swimming Marathon was in 1973 and since then it is organized every summer.
