Ugljan
The village Ugljan is located on the island of the same name, 11 km northwest of the ferry port Preko. The site also includes nine other surrounding settlements, with which he then counts about 1000 inhabitants. Ugljan is located on the main island road and through the port of Preko regularly drive ferry and boat lines to Zadar. Thus, he is perfectly connected to the mainland.
This place attracts its visitors with beautiful coves and beaches, some of which are sandy. The best known are Činta, Mostir and Luka in Muline. Ugljan is enchanted by incredible natural beauties and counts on average 2,500 hours of sunshine per year, or between 10 and 12 hours per day in July and August. In addition to numerous apartments, which are rented mostly by private individuals, there are also many campsites in this area. Most of them are in the bay Sušica.
Along the
bays of Ugljan and its settlements there are numerous cafes and restaurants, a
shopping center, post office and pharmacy. The inhabitants of this place are
traditionally engaged in agriculture and fishing, so that visitors can enjoy
different local products and traditional delicacies at every turn. Ugljan is
also known for its traditional Olive Oil Days event, which takes place every
year at the beginning of May. During the summer season, residents and visitors
of this place can enjoy numerous Dalmatian festivals, concerts in different
locations, sports tournaments or nights out to the night bar Ritam.
Ugljan is an ideal starting point to explore the
other islands of the Zadar archipelago and therefore attracts many sailors,
sport fishermen, divers and other water sports enthusiasts. Mile-long bike
trails run along the island of Ugljan, making the bike the ideal means of
exploring the island of Ugljan, as well as the neighboring island of Pasman,
which is connected to Ugljan by a bridge.
The area of Ugljan was inhabited already three millennia ago, so it is rich in archaeological funds, historical buildings (eg monastery and church of St. Jerome from the 15th century) as well as remains of castles (eg Villa Rustica from the 2nd century) from a time when it was a popular summer destination for noble families.
