Zemunik Donji
Zemunik Donji is located only 14 kilometers east of the city of Zadar, in the northern part of Dalmatia. This place is located in the center of Ravni kotari, known for its fertile plains, and is a part of the municipality of Zemunik together with the places Zemunik Gornji and Smoković.
This place, rich in natural beauty, is located in an excellent geographic location for several reasons. Zadar’s Zemunik airport is connected to many European cities, especially during the summer tourist season. On the other hand, the A1 highway, which is less than 5 km from the center of the town with its toll station ‘Zadar – East’, is also nearby. Due to the proximity of Zadar, main railway and bus station are also quite close, as is the seaport of Gaženica.
The size of the place is indicated by the fact that Zemunik Donji occupies a little less than 55 square kilometers of the total area of the municipality, as well as with the data on the number of inhabitants from 2011, when there was a total of 2,060 inhabitants in the entire municipality, of which 1,540 residents belonged to this place. Today, that figure is also somewhat higher and according to the latest available data on the number of inhabitants from 2021, Zemunik Donji has 2159 inhabitants. Out of the total of 32 municipalities in Zadar County, the municipality of Zemunik ranks 13th in terms of population. Therefore, it is not surprising that the municipal center of this area is exactly in Zemunik Donji.
The development of this place is also evidenced by the economic entities located in this area that are far and wide known. So, in addition to Zadar Port Zemunik, there is also the Zemunik Retirement Home, the Piket Nursery Garden, which is owned by Hrvatske šume, and many new holiday homes that often have a swimming pool suitable for relaxing during the hot summer days. The Mediterranean climate is responsible for the growing development of rural and agro-tourism. Accommodation units are gaining increasing interest from tourists due to the beautiful untouched nature of this peaceful area far from the hustle and bustle of the city, while still being close enough to a big city of Zadar which is full of entertainment, rich cultural heritage and various interesting contents.
This place is suitable for family life, since it has all the necessary facilities for everyday needs, such as the Zemunik Elementary School and the Zvjezdice kindergarten, markets, cafes, playgrounds, the parish church of St. Katarina, Zadar airport, military base, fire brigade, but also sports facilities such as the Zemunik football club, the Zemunik bocce club and the Bulin bocce club.
